In preparation for a family trip to Red River, NM – I had the bright idea to build a custom toboggan and sled for our kids. After watching many tutorial videos on how to steam bend wood, I landed on a great tutorial by Boatworks Today. After locating a place in Austin, TX to purchase some red oak wood, I began the journey of building our own toboggan, which we named Josefine I – after my mother Birgit Josefine Marie Pausch Gideon, who as a young child spend many days on toboggans and sleds in her home country of Germany. The project was fun, tedious and the steam bending tested my patience, but it worked like a charm and our kids loved every minute of it.
