A Brothers’ Journey

Guadalupe Mountains National Park

In January 2012, Jacob, Angelica and I took mom on a trip to Ruidoso, NM. When passing the Guadalupe Mountains, mom reminisced about how much she wished her and dad would have been able to climb the peak. After hearing this story, I told her one day we would climb the peak for both of them.

In March of 2013, almost a year after my mom’s passing – my brothers and I made good on that promise and took a trek across Texas to climb the peak. It was the first time in years the brothers had been on a camping trip together. We took mom and dad’s hiking sticks and ammo box with a notebook to the top, in hopes the future Gideon generations will make the hike as well.
